It is the most practiced remedy in case of any hip or leg surgery, or bone damage or even Tenotomy (tendon release). It may also be required by infants who are born with some disorders related to developmental hip dysplasia (DDH). The child requires a lot of care and there are certain precautions that need to be taken while the cast is there. The parents have to be very attentive to the daily activities of the child. All the daily chores should be carried out efficiently without causing any damage to the cast. The cast should be kept clean and dry. Special care should be taken while bathing so that the cast does not get wet. Any skin irritation, or such problems should not come in. The diet should also be given prior importance and any new addition should be avoided that may cause loose stools. Appropriate measures should be taken for the childÂ’s movements. The crossbar should never be used to turn the child. There is a huge risk of breaking. Diapers should be used to avoid unwanted movements and thus lowering the risk of any damage to the cast.
